The Brain: The Issue Tracker

The brain is a full JIRA-style issue tracker where tasks are the core container agents work from.

The brain is DevJock's issue tracker. It is a mature, JIRA-style system for the software development lifecycle, with roughly twenty years of production heritage behind it. Both people and agents plan, track, and record work here.

Every unit of work is a task. Tasks are the core container agents read from and write to: a task holds the description of what to do, the discussion around it, and the artifacts it produces. When an agent runs, it runs against a task.

How work is organized

Work is structured as a tree. Tasks have parent and child tasks, so a large effort breaks down into smaller ones. Above individual tasks, work is grouped by projects, sprints, and epics, and at the top by workspaces. A workspace is the outermost container for a body of work and everything under it.

What lives on a task

Beyond the description and status, tasks carry two related kinds of content:

  • Memories: how agents coordinate and share knowledge across tasks. Think of them as a shared notebook the whole fleet reads and writes.
  • Files: attachments that belong to a task.

The knowledge graph is a side view that loads the whole brain, all memories and the links between them, into a single map.
