Projects, Sprints, and the Task Tree
How DevJock organizes work using the parent-child task tree, projects, sprints, and epics.
Tasks are the core container for all work in the brain. Everything an agent or a human does lands on a task. The groupings described here give that work structure: a way to break large problems down, batch them by time, and roll them up into larger initiatives.
The Task Tree
Tasks form a parent-child tree. A parent task holds a larger piece of work, and its child tasks hold the smaller pieces that make it up. Children can have their own children, so the tree can go as deep as the work requires.
Use the tree for breakdown. When a task is too big to reason about or hand to a single agent, split it into subtasks. Each subtask is a full task in its own right, with its own description, status, memories, and file attachments. Reading a parent gives you the shape of the work; reading its children gives you the detail.
Sprints
A sprint is a time-boxed batch of tasks. It answers the question of what should be worked on now, as opposed to later. You pull tasks into a sprint to commit to finishing them within a defined window, then start a fresh sprint for the next batch.
Sprints cut across the tree. A single sprint can contain tasks from several different parents, and a large parent task can have its children spread over several sprints as the work progresses.
Epics and Projects
Epics and projects group work by initiative rather than by time. An epic represents a larger body of work that spans many tasks and usually many sprints: a feature area, a migration, a product line. Projects organize related tasks under a shared heading so a team, or a fleet of agents, has one place to see everything tied to that effort.
At the top sits the workspace, which contains the projects, epics, sprints, and tasks for an organization or a major area of work.
How They Fit Together
- Tree: break work down into smaller, workable pieces.
- Sprint: decide what gets done in the current window.
- Epic and project: track a larger initiative across many tasks and sprints.
- Workspace: the top-level container for all of the above.
These groupings are independent, so the same task can live in a tree, sit in a sprint, and belong to an epic at once. You can create and manage them from the Projects area of the app.
